Welcome to the MTC! We are your teachers, Sister Mecham, Brother Bytheway, and Brother Hill.

We are excited to meet with you in a couple of days! Please read this email carefully so that you will know what you need to do before your first day and what meetings you will need to attend on your first day.

You are scheduled to be taught in the Icelandic language. Your training will be for approximately 9 weeks. Your first two weeks of training will be completed online and then you will complete the remainder of your training at the Provo MTC. Your first day is March 7th.

Before you read and complete any of the tasks below, please respond to this email, right now, to let us know that you received this email. Then make sure to read the rest of the email!

Please do the following before your first day:

Get to know our district. See the attached “District Roster” pdf with pictures of the other missionaries in our district. They are also included on this email. You are welcome to reach out to one another via email or social media (Facebook, Instagram, Google Chats, etc.) before we begin together. Our district number is 15-A

We will use Google Calendar together as a district throughout the MTC. You should add our district calendar to your @missionary.org Google Calendar account by using the instructions in this linked document “Google Calendar Instructions.” We also recommend that you download the Google Calendar app onto your phone. Please let me know if you don’t receive a link soon!

Complete the MTC Orientation linked here. It’ll take up to 30 minutes. Do your best to complete this before our first class.

Linked is the document “Prepare for your MTC Experience” that you may have already seen, designed to help you prioritize your time during your MTC experience. Feel free to create your own events in your Google Calendar as you start organizing your time as a missionary.

Access your language learning app, TALL Embark. TALL Embark is available online, on the Apple App Store, and on the Google Play Store. When we start learning your mission language, you will use this app in and out of class.

No earlier than Friday, follow the linked ”Canvas Login Instructions” to connect to our district’s Canvas language-learning course. Feel free to explore the course in preparation for your language learning.

Please make sure to attend the following on your first day:

First Class: We will all meet together online for our first class at 8:30am mountain standard time on March 7th. Please prepare for class by familiarizing yourself with "Your Purpose" (Preach My Gospel, 1, red box). Please join this class 15 minutes before the start time by clicking on this Zoom link: https://zoom.us/my/angelica.ward (you can also find this on your Google Calendar)

First Large Group Meeting: You will participate in an online large group meeting called “Welcome to the Work”—a meeting for all new missionaries from 12-1pm MST on Monday using this Zoom link: https://zoom.us/my/workshop1 (you can also find this on your Google Calendar)

Last transfer calls 😅

Good morning everyone! I hope you've been having a swell week! This week was pretty good! Last monday we got a new friend named Fernando. He's really cool and we're tying to help him to get his own witness that God is there and that there is a plan for everything! On wednesday we found 2 more friends, Gabriela and Lori. They were referrals from a member. They're both super nice and I think they'll connect well with the branch. Yesterday we started teaching the 9 year old son of 2 newly baptized members! He was so excited to learn and is super excited to be baptized! He knows so much already from primary, which was really cool to see! Shout out to primary teachers everywhere. It snowed practically all week... Kind of tiring tbh, but things are going well! Saturday morning we got transfer calls from the ZLs. Uns við hittumst heilir, Jarðskjálftar, o.s.frv.

Góðan og blessaðan daginn! This week was full of all sorts of things. We got to meet Gloria, this Kenyan lady who's really nice. We went with Elder Gunderson and she really liked his passion for the gospel! On Sunday she attended church and really loved it! One of the members picked her up, and the members were fantastic at fellowshipping her. Funke came as well! She's awesome. I've never taught anyone who has a better understanding of the gospel than her. She's ready to be baptized. Please pray for her and her husband! Vyacheslav came as well! He's really great and I could tell he enjoyed it. Elder Whittle and I have been getting along well. Elders Pearson and Richards went home on Saturday (their flight got delayed one day). It was sad to say goodbye and also weird that I'm the 2nd most senior missionary in Iceland haha... Esther Alfa

Hey guys! This week was crazy. Many unexpected things happened. We learned on Saturday morning that Esther Alfa had passed away. This came as a complete surprise to everyone. She was extremely young to pass away and the cause is yet unknown. I don't know who remembers, but Esther was the first convert that I had the opportunity to teach. She was baptized a few weeks after I got to Iceland. Keep her family in your prayers. Today at FHE we shared memories of her. I shared this verse: Alma 46:21 "And it came to pass that when Moroni had proclaimed these words, behold, the people came running together with their armor girded about their loins, rending their garments in token, or as a covenant, that they would not forsake the Lord their God..." Esther was a devout christian, strong in her faith, and never scared to stand for her belief in the Savior. She was an example of the believers to everyone she was arround.
