Svið and the Spirit

Góðan daginn kæru systkini! This week was pretty cool! Also, thank you to everyone who responds to my emails! Your messages always make me smile! I love you guys! Weekly Report - Tuesday: We served at the local Goodwill! It's always fun. It's also crazy to see just how many clothes people donate. It seems like sometimes people donate more clothes than I own haha. Later that day we went to one of our friend Jóhanna's house to do some yard work. She bought us pizza and it was really fun to talk with her! Wednesday: We got to play Soccer again! Some new people came to play haha. Once they learned that we were Americans, they may have roasted us a little bit about Americans not being good at football. We had an odd number of players, 7. So they counted us as each half a person, making the game 3 on 3. As we continued to play, Elder Whittle worked hard to show that the soccer stereotypes about Americans were not true. I on the other hand, though trying my best, did a very ef...

Öldungur Cook

Buen día! This week was something really unique. Last monday, we began our trip to Denmark, to meet Elder Cook. That was a journey in and of itself, but it was worth it. Our flight to Reykjavik was at 12:20, and since it was a domestic flight, we didn't have to be there super early for security. We routed out a bus that would pick us up at 11:15 and get us there at 11:30, which would have given us 35 minutes before boarding to just chill. However, the bus didn't show up. At around 11:25 we started walking because it was a 50 minute walk to the airport, and we had no other way of getting there. Let's just say that walking so far is more enjoyable when you're not in dress shoes and a suit, or carrying around a suitcase. Though the weather in Iceland is pretty mild, that didn't stop me from having sweat drip down my face by the end of the walk. Those who know me pretty well can surely attest to the power of my sweat glands. That holds true in Iceland, it would seem. A...

Transfers

Góðan daginn gott fólk! This past week was pretty great! It was the last week of the transfer so that means we've got transfer news: nothing, none of the elders switched on Iceland. We did get a new set of sisters, but they're in Reykjavik, which doesn't change much for Akureyri. The week: Monday - spent way too much on groceries (will be scrounging this week). Found a brand of toilet paper that would make the public school system's jaw drop. Tuesday - set up a book of Mormon study class and invited a bunch of people Wednesday - taught Alen (one of the venezuelans) some icelandic grammar. A few moments of laying on the ground in exasperation included. Then we went to play soccer with him and some other people. (I may more may not have missed at least 5 shots from within the inner goally box, and we may have gotten schooled by a bunch of 10 year olds) Thursday - met with Jónína, a super sweet old lady, and taught her about the plan of salvation. She gave us some cak...

the past 3 weeks

Góðan daginn vinir! Sorry I haven't written an email in a few weeks. Don't worry, my sister's roasted me for it already. So about 10 days ago, all of the missionaries on Iceland flew to Denmark for mission conference! It was so amazing. The day we flew out, we flew from Akureyri to Reykjavik in the morning, then drove from Reykjavik to Keflavik and flew from Keflavik to Copenhagen in the afternoon. While in line to board in Keflavik, I turned to Elder Whittle, and asked probably a little too loud 'DO WE NEED OUR PASSPORTS?!' Some how we didn't think about it until 10 minutes before we took off. So we got on the plane going to reykjavik, and I was super nervous that we wouldn't get to go to Denmark. As soon as we landed, we told Elder McGary and talked with one of the Iceland Air workers, they said we could get someone in Akureyri to ship them down on a mail plane that was gonna land at 1:00. Our flight was at 3, and boarding started at 2:20 so we had a li...
