Transfers

Góðan daginn gott fólk!

This past week was pretty great! It was the last week of the transfer so that means we've got transfer news: nothing, none of the elders switched on Iceland. We did get a new set of sisters, but they're in Reykjavik, which doesn't change much for Akureyri.

The week:

Monday - spent way too much on groceries (will be scrounging this week). Found a brand of toilet paper that would make the public school system's jaw drop.

Tuesday - set up a book of Mormon study class and invited a bunch of people

Wednesday - taught Alen (one of the venezuelans) some icelandic grammar. A few moments of laying on the ground in exasperation included. Then we went to play soccer with him and some other people. (I may more may not have missed at least 5 shots from within the inner goally box, and we may have gotten schooled by a bunch of 10 year olds)

Thursday - met with Jónína, a super sweet old lady, and taught her about the plan of salvation. She gave us some cake, said she was our grandma, and gave my comp some salmon to cook. She's super sweet! Then we lead the book of Mormon study. It went alright.

Friday - taught another icelandic class with alen, the rest of the venezuelans, and Maleyzu, a lady from El salvador who's a member of the church, but hasn't been able to attend in a bit. She was super excited to meet the venezuelans! She said it had been 2 years since she had spoken Spanish with someone. (She speaks Spanish, broken icelandic, and reallllllllllyyyyyyy broken english). Also, we taught Sigurbjörn (another one of our friends) about the plan of happiness and its purpose in helping us return to God after this life, and how we do that's possible by following the gospel of Jesus Christ. Then, we asked him, with his new knowledge, how we could help him with reaching the goal of being able to return to God's presence, and he said "Being baptized would be awesome" but in icelandic. He plans to get baptized on October 5th!

Saturday - not entirely sure

Sunday - winged an elders Quorum lesson. Attended church, partook of the sacrament. The wards, an amazing member family invited us over for dinner! Let's just say they cook better than we do. It was great to visit them!

Today - on our way to Denmark to meet Elder Cook! On of Jesus Christ's modern day Apostles.

I've been studying Spanish a little more in my free time, and I've gotten to have a few broken, brief, probably painful for the other people's ears, Spanish conversations. Teaching the Icelandic lesson on Friday was messing with my brain because I was trying to practice my spanish a little while teaching icelandic, and both languages decided to walk out of my brain.

In preparation for meeting elder Cook, I've listened to his old general conference talks. They're super good. In one, he mentioned that while growing up, his brother was contemplating serving a mission or going to school. His dad wanted him to go to medical school instead. As they were discussing this, they decided their answer would be based off 3 questions.

(1) Is Jesus Christ divine?

(2) Is the Book of Mormon the word of God?

(3) Is Joseph Smith the Prophet of the Restoration?

I know and bare witness that Jesus Christ is the Divine son of God. He came to earth to fulfill the will of His father, to suffer and die, so that we could find peace and solice in a world that Satan constantly defiles. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. It is a sure witness of God's love and unwavering hope in us, His children. It teaches us how we can live to enjoy the blessings of Jesus Christ. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. No man, could have produced a book like the Book of Mormon. No man could have sacrificed so much, even his life, leaving behind his wife, who had stuck by him and loved him through all of his short comings, his children, who would not have their father, for a purpose that wasn't commanded by the True and Living God.
