Ye Elders of Israel
Last monday, we start hearing rumors that the truckers are going on strike. Super spennandi. We continued on with life as normal, but then on tuesday we get a phone call from Elder MickyG (McGary) learning that we should be cautious about how much gas we spend! (We have one of the few missionary cars in the world that doesn't have teewee, and we have unlimited kilometers B). The people who run that program didn't think that it was worth it to come to Iceland to install it for the single young missionary car. Because Iceland is so small, there's a lot less competitors who could've shipped the stuff around, so it could've potentially shut a large portion of the country down in a few aspects.
On tuesday, we wake up and there's a message from a person the missionaries had stopped teaching several months ago that he had sent at 4:00am. He said that he wanted to meet! It was a little concerning, given the hour of his first message, but we set up a time, and the spirit didn't say no! So we went to his house. We started talking about the restoration, then he asked if we could talk about something else. He said that he'd made up his mind and wanted to be baptized! Even though the missionaries had stopped teaching him, the spirit kept working on him! It was amazing! We meet with him tomorrow! Pray for Daníel!
Selfoss is a pretty nice town! It's really small. There's a main street with buisnesses on it, then several neighborhoods. Our apartment is right next to a horse ranch, which is kind of cool. When the weather permits we can see them walking around with thick winter coats on. Too bad we're not allowed to go horseback riding. The weather's so spontaneous though. A few days ago, the snow was almost completely gone, but now it's come back. Not as much, but everything is white again. The church is less than a 10 minute drive, but there's these massive speed bumps that
I gave a talk yesterday in Church! It was about letting God prevail, and having the faith not to be healed. To submit to the father and whatever he sees fit to inflict upon us. I got a bit flustered, so I'm not sure how the Icelandic portion of it went, but I hope that someone got something. The concluding speaker referenced it, so it mustn't have been impossible to understand. Basically, my message was that if we have faith and trust God, then hardships lose their sting. We know that if we're doing what's right, our challenges, even death, work for us to achieve a better future with an eternal perspective in mind.
Saturday morning we taught a lesson to Stefán. He's the best. The spirit was so strong and refreshing. It felt like I had been doing baptisms in the temple haha. We talked for almost an hour about Matthew 5:3. About being poor in spirit, and all sorts of things. It was amazing. The spirit is a better feeling than anything else! Also, don't forget that eternal joy is more than temporal happiness or pleasure.
On thursday we drove to Reykjavik for district council. Elder McGary was there, and told us he had to meet with us both individually. We looked at eachother and thought we were screwed. But it was just a really nice experience! He wanted to check up on us, see how things were going. But the drive there was absolutely gorgeous. I have some pictures! We were totally vibing.
Read your scriptures! Replace pointless habits with useful ones!
