Dear Elder Jacob Charles Rasmussen,

Congratulations on your call to serve our Heavenly Father and His children in the Denmark Copenhagen Mission. You will be serving in Iceland, which is a part of the Denmark Copenhagen Mission, for the duration of your mission. It is a beautiful country, and you will enjoy your service there. 

Sister Mattsson and I are delighted to welcome you to this mission, with its dedicated church members and missionaries. The Mission in Denmark is one of the oldest foreign speaking missions in the Church. Erastus Snow was one of the first missionaries to arrive in Denmark in 1850. Denmark also has the distinction of being the first country to have the Book of Mormon translated into its native language, after the English translation was completed by the prophet Joseph Smith. The Icelandic translation of the Book of Mormon was completed by local members in 1981.

Many thousands joined the Church in Denmark, and over 300 from Iceland in those early years, and many immigrated to America where they helped establish the Church in Utah and other places. Many of our missionaries today are descendants of those earlier converts, and they now have the privilege of returning to this mission to continue to share the wonderful message of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We encourage you to read and study the Book of Mormon and Preach My Gospel at least half an hour every day. This will allow them to become a source of strength and enlightenment throughout your mission and throughout your life as you become more familiar with them.

It will be your privilege to seek out the honest in heart, teaching them the Gospel of Jesus Christ and baptizing them into the kingdom of God (D&C 15:5-6, D&C 4). We hope you will set high standards for yourself in hard work and obedience. (Alma 57:21, D&C 82:9-10, Alma 37:35-37). These principles will help you adjust to missionary life and your purpose for being here. Begin to prepare now, for your mission begins as you enter the MTC. Be diligent in your scripture study. Be obedient to all the rules and as you dedicate yourself you will be prepared to preach in your mission language with the companionship of the Holy Ghost as you enter Iceland. As you put your whole heart and soul into serving God through serving others, you will find great growth and blessings, and your mission will be a life changing experience for you and a wonderful memory.

We anxiously await your arrival and look forward to working with you. Thank you for your willingness to serve and we pray for the richest blessings of the Lord to be with you in your preparations.

Good morning everyone! I hope you've been having a swell week! This week was pretty good! Last monday we got a new friend named Fernando. He's really cool and we're tying to help him to get his own witness that God is there and that there is a plan for everything! On wednesday we found 2 more friends, Gabriela and Lori. They were referrals from a member. They're both super nice and I think they'll connect well with the branch. Yesterday we started teaching the 9 year old son of 2 newly baptized members! He was so excited to learn and is super excited to be baptized! He knows so much already from primary, which was really cool to see! Shout out to primary teachers everywhere. It snowed practically all week... Kind of tiring tbh, but things are going well! Saturday morning we got transfer calls from the ZLs. Uns við hittumst heilir, Jarðskjálftar, o.s.frv.

Góðan og blessaðan daginn! This week was full of all sorts of things. We got to meet Gloria, this Kenyan lady who's really nice. We went with Elder Gunderson and she really liked his passion for the gospel! On Sunday she attended church and really loved it! One of the members picked her up, and the members were fantastic at fellowshipping her. Funke came as well! She's awesome. I've never taught anyone who has a better understanding of the gospel than her. She's ready to be baptized. Please pray for her and her husband! Vyacheslav came as well! He's really great and I could tell he enjoyed it. Elder Whittle and I have been getting along well. Elders Pearson and Richards went home on Saturday (their flight got delayed one day). It was sad to say goodbye and also weird that I'm the 2nd most senior missionary in Iceland haha... Esther Alfa

Hey guys! This week was crazy. Many unexpected things happened. We learned on Saturday morning that Esther Alfa had passed away. This came as a complete surprise to everyone. She was extremely young to pass away and the cause is yet unknown. I don't know who remembers, but Esther was the first convert that I had the opportunity to teach. She was baptized a few weeks after I got to Iceland. Keep her family in your prayers. Today at FHE we shared memories of her. I shared this verse: Alma 46:21 "And it came to pass that when Moroni had proclaimed these words, behold, the people came running together with their armor girded about their loins, rending their garments in token, or as a covenant, that they would not forsake the Lord their God..." Esther was a devout christian, strong in her faith, and never scared to stand for her belief in the Savior. She was an example of the believers to everyone she was arround.
