Akureyri
This week has been pretty awesome! On tuesday I got transfered to Akureyri. I had to take a 35ish minute plane ride to get there. It's the fastest and cheapest way haha. I was all by myself though, and it was really interesting.
Akureyri's a beautiful area. The weather is really unpredictable. It's either really beautiful, or really miserable. There's not much middle ground, but it's really awesome all the time because I get to serve the lord. The apartment's really nice!
My companion, Elder Whittle, is the second newest Elder in Iceland! We're both learning super fast. And we get along really well together.
The Akureyri Branch is really small. There's about 13 members, and only 3 came this sunday. But there was a bunch of tourists too. The building is the 3rd story of an office/shop building, which is really cool! It has a nice look out over the fjord.
We did a little bit of street contacting, and we talked with this man who got pretty upset with us. First, he asked us how we learned Icelandic, because even people who've lived in Iceland for 10+ years don't learn it, and we said that it was by the power of God. That really angered him. We didn't talk very long, but he said that Christianity was bullcr@p (I took the liberty to sanctify the wording). Anyways, we felt the spirit leave pretty quickly, so we ended the conversation and left, but he was telling us to wait and that he wasn't done with us.
Elder Whittle and I are both super excited to serve together. We believe there's something special about us being together. We're the only two elders who had an in person MTC experience, and we believe that our greenie-ness will lead us to have a lot of growth in ways that most people don't expect, with the mission culture and everything.
We baked some cookies for our neighbor, because it was her birthday, but she hasn't answered and now I've almost eaten them all...
Anyways, Iceland's great. Missons are amazing. Trusting God brings unmatchable reasults.
Job 13:15-16: Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him. He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.
