I've been driven slightly mad, or in other words, I have gone insane. I couldn't tell you why specifically, but it definitly feels like it. I think it's largly because of the darkness and having such little interaction with people. It's been so hard to get out of bed at 6:30.
But, despite the pending insanity, this week was pretty epic B).
Tuesday - We went to visit Jónína! She was sick but recovered like a champ. I'm not sure what's too personal to say, so this might be vague, but she's doing the things and completing the commitments that make a person more likely to endure to the end! It makes us really happy to see. Her grandaughter was there, and she looked like one of my friends @Sabrina Gooch, which means she looked like me, only female. We also had an extremely good weekly planning session. It felt really good to have specific goals and proactive steps to reach them.
Wednesday - We taught an English class to Rafael and 2 new people! It went well and it was good to help them connect, Akureyri's a really lonely place, especially if you don't speak English or Icelandic.
Thursday - We went to visit a member and help her access the Book of Mormon audio book in Icelandic! We then talked about the blessings of the restoration, and invited her to share her testimony on Facebook! She said she was willing to, and we really look forward to seeing it happen!
Friday - We taught another english class! At the end, we taught a lesson about eternal families, and it really helped the new people I had mentioned earlier. It was practically all using a translator from english to spanish, and then their responses from spanish to english, which was a little scary, but I'm glad that it went well! At the end they accepted a Book of Mormon, and said they'd pray to learn if it's true or not! That evening, we went knocking again! We hadn't gone for a while, because the weather and the Holidays and stuff, but it was pretty good. We knocked a whole apartment building without much success, then as we were deciding which building to knock next, a cat walked by. The dear words of the late Öldungur Petersen, who's now returned to Utah, came to my mind. 'If you ever see a cat, follow it.' Or something along those lines. So we decided to follow the cat. We started following it, and as it walked it checked over its shoulder as if it were checking to see if we were following it or not. It then picked up its pace, so we stopped following it, looked around, and saw a couple getting out of their car about 20 meters away. So we went up to talk with them! Lo and behold, they were ready to hear a message about the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It's a miracle, I believe that's the 2nd time in 10 months that I've been able to teach a lesson out of knocking. They're a really sweet couple, and we've got hi hopes for them!1
Saturday - We were gonna have a one on one english lesson with Rafael. At the start of it, we started talking about God, and how He's our loving Father in Heaven, but after a little bit we went to begin the english class, because that's why he'd met with us! But, Rafael asked if we could keep talking about God instead. We talked a lot about our relationship to God and to His Son Jesus Christ. The spirit was strong. There's very few people that I know, who have a greater or more pure love for God in their hearts.
Sunday - We had fast and testimony meeting, it was pretty good! I bore my testimony of the Book of Mormon, and it felt really good to do. My testimony of the Book of Mormon, is how it's a guide in our lives. The stories and lesson contained in it are of divine worth, and by studying them we can receive divine guidance. Like the Bible, it's a witness of the Love of God for His children (all of us), and that Jesus Christ came to earth to save us because of that love (John 3:16-17). I also testify of the promise in the Book of Mormon. Found in Moroni 10, it says:
3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
I've taken that promise, and I know it to be true. And I invite you guys to take that promise, again if you've already done it, and for the first time if you never have!
Peace out Girl Scouts,
Elder Rasmussen
