The end of nowhere.

This week started out fairly fun! Elder Pollock and I were together on tuesday for splits, then I was supposed to go with Elder Richards on Wednesday, but the weather prevented us from doing that.

On thursday we drove to Reykjavik for district council. Afterwards we went to this mexican place called Serrano. TBH it probably wasn't that good of mexican food but I haven't had mexican in about a year, so I have no clue, but it was really good.

Elder Carr and I came back to Selfoss after that! We taught Jóhanna and had a good evening.

On friday we celebrated þorrablót! It's an icelandic tradition where they eat the old icelandic food in memory of their ancestors who perservered through life here without modern technology. We got to eat rotten shark, sheeps head, liver and blood sausage, and a bunch of other thing! The shark actually wasn't as bad this time, though I avoided eating a sheep eyeball again...

In other news, we got a new friend! His name is Pétur and he's really friendly! We talked with him about the Book of Mormon a little, and he wasn't completely freaked out by the concept of having more scripture than just the bible.

We also got 4 friends as referrals. 2 from the sisters and 2 from Elder Richards and Pollock. They're all venesuelan people who moved into our branch! They live about 45 minutes from the church in a town called laugarvatn (one of the places you can make the bread in the ground via geothermal stuff). They've learned a decent portion of the gospel, and want to take english classes as well! It's a pretty amazing experience. Right now they only speak spanish

I've come to love the members so much in this area! They're so great, one of the best examples of saints I've ever met! It's inspired me to want to do my best even more, which I really like!

I've been really pressed this week on the importance of humility, and accepting change. God has a plan for each of his children. A plan that we knew and accepted in the spirit world. We knew that we'd be in the spot we'd be in if we chose to follow him. We knew our potential then and we're trying to remember it now. The only limit to how much we can enjoy and experience. How much of that potential we can achieve, is our willingness to let God prevail. To let him lead us and guide us. To allow ourselves to fall down, so that we gain extra strength in standing back up. To learn from our challenges, not to despise them. As we do, life becomes simpler. It becomes much less about oneself, and more about ones purpose. The lord won't let us fail in the end, even if it means learning failures now. Life isn't fair, but God's plan is fair. When we go through this life into the next phase of God's plan, the things that weren't fair will be given recompense. Everything can be happy, just, and peaceful if we not only trust the lord, but trust his timing too.

Have a great week!

Elder Rasmussen
