Splits in Akureyri!

Hello guys!

This week was pretty good! We set our friend on baptismal date! Armando has agreed to prepare to be baptized by immersion of someone holding the proper priesthood authority on October 28th! The lesson went well. The gift of tongues is real though!

One of our newly baptized members, magnús, invited his friend to church! After the service was over, she accepted the invite to learn more about the gospel!

We went on splits to Akureyri this week! It was my first time going back since I left! It was so awesome to see Jónína again! She's literally the best! The strongest member in the branch! She's read the Book of Mormon 3 times, D&C twice, Principles of the Gospel twice, and she's still going! And she's been a member for less than a year! (She also read the new testament).

The Elders there are great! It's been incredible to see their growth. They've been on the mission for about 10 months each, and wow, it's incredible!

This week I want to emphasize the importance of family scripture study and prayer! I've seen how it changes the spirit in our companionship when we have legitimate studies as opposed to just killing 30 minutes of time. It brings us together and invites the spirit to be with us as we work together to invite others to Christ. I can really see in hind sight how it changed the spirit in our home, and I'm really grateful to my parents for their effort in making me and my siblings do family scripture study, even though I didn't understand the full significance of it yet.

I also want to emphasize being bold with love. If you don't say the things that need to be said, you can't claim to love someone unless you're willing to chasten them. It's necessary to remember that the chastening needs to come from a place of love, and that it's to lift someone up, not to condemn them. God chastens us and tells us we need to shape up if we're to be better. Parents chasten children, true friends chasten friends. (A touch of humility doesn't hurt when correcting someone with love either)

Last transfer calls 😅

Good morning everyone! I hope you've been having a swell week! This week was pretty good! Last monday we got a new friend named Fernando. He's really cool and we're tying to help him to get his own witness that God is there and that there is a plan for everything! On wednesday we found 2 more friends, Gabriela and Lori. They were referrals from a member. They're both super nice and I think they'll connect well with the branch. Yesterday we started teaching the 9 year old son of 2 newly baptized members! He was so excited to learn and is super excited to be baptized! He knows so much already from primary, which was really cool to see! Shout out to primary teachers everywhere. It snowed practically all week... Kind of tiring tbh, but things are going well! Saturday morning we got transfer calls from the ZLs. Góðan og blessaðan daginn! This week was full of all sorts of things. We got to meet Gloria, this Kenyan lady who's really nice. We went with Elder Gunderson and she really liked his passion for the gospel! On Sunday she attended church and really loved it! One of the members picked her up, and the members were fantastic at fellowshipping her. Funke came as well! She's awesome. I've never taught anyone who has a better understanding of the gospel than her. She's ready to be baptized. Please pray for her and her husband! Vyacheslav came as well! He's really great and I could tell he enjoyed it. Elder Whittle and I have been getting along well. Elders Pearson and Richards went home on Saturday (their flight got delayed one day). It was sad to say goodbye and also weird that I'm the 2nd most senior missionary in Iceland haha... Esther Alfa

Hey guys! This week was crazy. Many unexpected things happened. We learned on Saturday morning that Esther Alfa had passed away. This came as a complete surprise to everyone. She was extremely young to pass away and the cause is yet unknown. I don't know who remembers, but Esther was the first convert that I had the opportunity to teach. She was baptized a few weeks after I got to Iceland. Keep her family in your prayers. Today at FHE we shared memories of her. I shared this verse: Alma 46:21 "And it came to pass that when Moroni had proclaimed these words, behold, the people came running together with their armor girded about their loins, rending their garments in token, or as a covenant, that they would not forsake the Lord their God..." Esther was a devout christian, strong in her faith, and never scared to stand for her belief in the Savior. She was an example of the believers to everyone she was arround.
