Parent's Letter from President Mattsson

Dear Brother and Sister Rasmussen,

As you know your wonderful son, Elder Jacob Rasmussen, will return home on March 15, 2024 from Iceland of the Denmark Copenhagen Mission, where he has faithfully served. Sister Mattsson and I express tremendous joy for having been able to get to know your wonderful son during these past two years as Mission Leaders. You will not find a better, more dedicated, more inspired, more loved or more respected missionary in the mission. We have adopted him! Elder Rasmussen has touched the hearts of countless of people where he has labored, including the members, the leaders, and the many friends that he has been serving so valiantly. They will remember him with fondness for many, many years to come. 
What a tribute to you as parents to have raised such a wonderful, kind, efficient, and dedicated missionary son. We are absolutely sure that the Lord, whose work this is, is pleased with his unselfish and hard work, and for magnifying his calling in such a brilliant way. What a missionary! We know that he has developed an increased, deep and lasting love for the Savior, an abiding knowledge of and love for the saving principles of the gospel, and that he has a firm desire to continue serving the Lord as a true disciple in his future pursuits. It will be painful to say good-bye to him, and Sister Mattsson and I will dearly miss him, but we are looking forward to meeting you and your family if, and when we will be able to visit the US, or if you are able to visit us in Denmark before our return to Gothenburg, Sweden, where we come from, around July 1st, 2024. We absolutely love him!

Elder Rasmussen has a wonderful work ethic, is full of compassion and love, and has contributed enormously to this mission, as a beloved Senior Companion, Trainer and as Zone Leader for a very long time, and is returning from the mission field with our deepest love, gratitude, and prayers. Elder Rasmussen is a wonderfully dedicated missionary and has been absolutely magnificent! There is absolutely no one like him. He has been blessed with just about every talent and gift known to God and man. No one can ever replace him.

Thank you for sending such a fine young missionary to Iceland of the Denmark Copenhagen Mission. May the Lord continue to bless you in your service.

Last transfer calls 😅

Good morning everyone! I hope you've been having a swell week! This week was pretty good! Last monday we got a new friend named Fernando. He's really cool and we're tying to help him to get his own witness that God is there and that there is a plan for everything! On wednesday we found 2 more friends, Gabriela and Lori. They were referrals from a member. They're both super nice and I think they'll connect well with the branch. Yesterday we started teaching the 9 year old son of 2 newly baptized members! He was so excited to learn and is super excited to be baptized! He knows so much already from primary, which was really cool to see! Shout out to primary teachers everywhere. It snowed practically all week... Kind of tiring tbh, but things are going well! Saturday morning we got transfer calls from the ZLs. Góðan og blessaðan daginn! This week was full of all sorts of things. We got to meet Gloria, this Kenyan lady who's really nice. We went with Elder Gunderson and she really liked his passion for the gospel! On Sunday she attended church and really loved it! One of the members picked her up, and the members were fantastic at fellowshipping her. Funke came as well! She's awesome. I've never taught anyone who has a better understanding of the gospel than her. She's ready to be baptized. Please pray for her and her husband! Vyacheslav came as well! He's really great and I could tell he enjoyed it. Elder Whittle and I have been getting along well. Elders Pearson and Richards went home on Saturday (their flight got delayed one day). It was sad to say goodbye and also weird that I'm the 2nd most senior missionary in Iceland haha... Esther Alfa

Hey guys! This week was crazy. Many unexpected things happened. We learned on Saturday morning that Esther Alfa had passed away. This came as a complete surprise to everyone. She was extremely young to pass away and the cause is yet unknown. I don't know who remembers, but Esther was the first convert that I had the opportunity to teach. She was baptized a few weeks after I got to Iceland. Keep her family in your prayers. Today at FHE we shared memories of her. I shared this verse: Alma 46:21 "And it came to pass that when Moroni had proclaimed these words, behold, the people came running together with their armor girded about their loins, rending their garments in token, or as a covenant, that they would not forsake the Lord their God..." Esther was a devout christian, strong in her faith, and never scared to stand for her belief in the Savior. She was an example of the believers to everyone she was arround.
